16 dead in Moscow air crash

The death toll from the air crash in Moscow stands currently at 16, after an Ilyushiv IL-86 crashed shortly after take-off from Moscow’s Sheremetevo I airport on Sunday.

Two survivors are reported to have been found at the crash site. It is as yet unclear as to the exact number of deaths, but initial reports put the toll at 16. After crashing, the aircraft burst into flames. Eye-witnesses claim that the aircraft reached around 200 metres of altitude and inexplicably, started to fall.

Luckily, the Ilyushin was not carrying passengers, as it was performing a “technical flight” from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. The Ilyushin 86 has a capacity for 350 seats.

The aircraft belonged to the company Pulkovskie Avialinii.
