International Labour Organisation will help Russia estimate social consequences after joining WTO

Russia's Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov received the ILO (the International Labour Organisation) Director General Juan Somavia on Friday.

Kasyanov thanked the ILO for cooperation in preparation of the new Labour Code, said the Governmental Information Department.

Perspectives of cooperation between Russia and the International Labour Organisation were on the agenda of the meeting. This March witnessed the signing of a program of Russia-ILO cooperation, which implies ratification of the Convention on Child Labour and a number of measures aimed at improving labour conditions and increasing salaries in Russia.

During the meeting with the Russian Premier Juan Somavia announced that the ILO was ready to help Russia estimate possible social consequences after its joining the WTO.

In the course of the meeting they also touched upon issues concerning the regular autumn session of the World Committee on Globalisation Social Consequences, where Russia is presented by Russia's Vice-Premier Valentina Matviyenko. Valentina Matviyenko and the Minister of Labour and Social Development also participated in the meeting.
