This June floods in the Russian southern regions caused some 550m rubles ($17.4m) in damages to gas enterprises including 300m rubles ($9.5m) to Gazprom's pipeline system in the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, Alexander Ananenkov, deputy chairman of the gas giant, declared. The land part of the gas pipeline 'Blue Stream', which is to start operating this October, is also situated in these regions. Gazprom has already spent 150m rubles ($4.8m) to reconstruct gas facilities damaged by the floods. Some 12 out of 25 ruined gas pipelines over rivers in these regions have already been rebuilt. Gazprom ordered its design institutes to develop technologies that will enable the company to reconstruct its pipelines using more modern technologies. It is possible that at least six gas pipelines will lie on the rivers' bottom not over the water's surface, the Nezavisimaya Gazeta newspaper reported.
