Canadian Superior Energy Given Approval For Marquis L-35 Well Offshore Nova Scotia

Canadian Superior Energy Inc. has been granted approval from the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board to drill the Company's Marquis L-35 well offshore Nova Scotia. Last week, Canadian Superior received the Drilling Program Authorization (DPA) which allowed the Rowan Gorilla V jack-up drilling unit to start its tow from Halifax Harbor to the Marquis well site in the Sable Island area offshore Nova Scotia.

In Halifax, on Canada Day, July 1st, Canadian Superior co-hosted the official launch of the Company's offshore Nova Scotia Marquis Natural Gas Project with over 250 people attending the celebration on the Halifax waterfront. The Honorable John F. Hamm, Premier of the Province of Nova Scotia, attended the official ceremonies and congratulated Canadian Superior and all those involved in the Project for achieving this important milestone.

Greg Noval, President of Canadian Superior said, "The Marquis well is the first well of a multi-well drilling program planned by Canadian Superior for the Scotian Shelf and we are very pleased to have reached this important stage of our first major offshore project. We expect to start the drilling at the Marquis L-35 location with the Rowan Gorilla V within the next few days."

Mike Coolen, Canadian Superior's Director of East Coast Operations, commented that, "This is an exciting time for Canadian Superior and we are all very pleased to be an active participant in the development of Nova Scotia's oil and gas industry." Mr. Coolen said that, "The Marquis L-35 well is expected to take between 70 to 90 days to complete."

The "Marquis Prospect" is located approximately 20 kilometers northwest of Sable Island and is directly on trend with, and analogous to, the recent Deep Panuke Abenaki reef natural gas discovery. Deep Panuke is approximately 25 kilometers to the southwest of the Marquis and has successfully tested several delineation wells, each with productive capacity in excess of 50 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d). The Deep Panuke discovery production rate is expected to be in excess of 400 mmcf/d when it is brought on line. The first Marquis well will be drilled to a minimum depth of 4,300 meters TVD or, a depth sufficient to test the main deep Abenaki reef section. Rowan Companies Inc.'s Rowan Gorilla V being used to drill the Marquis L-35 test well is one of the largest jack-up drilling rigs operating in the world and is the first of a series of Super Gorilla class jack-ups capable of drilling and producing simultaneously in water depths up to 400 feet in harsh environments like offshore Eastern Canada.
