According to President Vladimir Putin of Russia, among the prime tasks of the Eurasian Economic Community, EurAsEC, which apart from Russia, involves Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrghyzstan and Tajikistan, is not to lag behind global processes and introduce into world markets the commodities and services in demand. When asked about EurAsEC's future, the president said that "if we had not believed in a bright future of the organization, we would not have established it." With the collapse of the Soviet Union many economic ties were lost, something ordinary people stood to lose from in the first instance, said President Putin. Some things from the Soviet heritage should be preserved, while global development processes should be followed as well, said the president. The membership in the World Trade Organization may have a negative effect on partnership within EurAsEC, that is why the EurAsEC Inter-State Council deemed it necessary that the member countries, seeking the WTO membership, should coordinate their stances, according to Vladimir Putin. Inter-State Council Chairman Nursultan Nazarbayev has described as important a decision deterring protective compensatory and anti-dumping measures in trade relations between the EurAsEC countries.
