Sila M. Calderon has filed a law suit against the US Navy trying to put an end to military exercises conducted in the Viekes island area, in which coastal air strikes are included. “This legal move undertaken be the government, is aimed to protect the health and security of the Puerto-Ricans,” the governor is quoted by the MIGnews as saying. The suit has already been registered with a Washington court. The defendants have been named in the persons of Defence Minister Donald Ramsfeld and other high-ranking officers. Sila Calderon has repeatedly appealed to the defence minister and even President Bush on this account, but in vain. So, one has to resort to legal proceeding. The US Navy has called the move an “extremely negative step.”
