Pavel Borodin's defense lawyers Genrikh Padva and Boris Kuznetsov are expected to get in touch with their colleagues in New York to clarify on what grounds the state secretary of the Russian-Belarussian Union State had been detained at a U.S. airport. They both told Interfax on Thursday that they do not know the details of the detention. They also said that they are holding consultations to work out a general position and to decide what should be done to defend Borodin, Interfax reports. Padva said that Borodin had flown to the U.S. to attend the inauguration ceremony of George W. Bush. He had a regular foreign passport, not a diplomatic one, Padva said. An administrative court in New York is to decide where Borodin will be held, he said. He also said that Borodin may be detained indefinitely, or extradited to Switzerland, or sent back to Russia.
