Russian engineers killed in Algeria

Four Russian engineers who worked at one of metals plants in Algeria are reported to have been killed. According to Russian diplomats, the murder occurred in a forest where the Russian engineers went to gather mushrooms. The bodies of the killed were found near the village of Wed el-Anab in the Anaba region, 400 kilometres east of the capital of the country. According to Interfax, the Russian diplomats contacted the Algerian authorities after the engineers had not returned home from the forest. Sources in the Algerian security forces do not rule it out that the citizens of the Russian Federation fell victim to Islamic fundamentalists. More than 100,000 people have been killed in Algeria since 1992 when a civil war began there.
