FATE OF THE MIR TO BE DECIDED TODAY

At today’s government meeting, a decree may be adopted on the final stage of operating the space station Mir, Yuri Koptev, Director General of the Russian Airspace Agency has said. In his words, the ministries of foreign affairs, emergency situations, of the defence, as well as a number of other agencies will have to lodge with the government a package of documents regulating the completion of the Mir’s operation and its safe de-orbiting, Interfax reports. Under international accords, Russia should ensure safety in conducting space research.
