KOSTUNICA: KOSOVO ELECTIONS SHOULD BE PUT OFF

Elections in Kosovo, scheduled on October 28, should be postponed, Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica said in Skopje on closing the informal meeting of Balkan states’ leaders. It is not yet known to what extent the situation in the region has returned to normal and whether conditions exist for holding the elections, Mr. Kostunica pointed out. It is for the first time that heads of Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania, Yugoslavia, Greece, Turkey, and also representatives of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered together at a single negotiating table. The next similar-format meting is to be held again in Skopje in February 2001.
