"Black Tuesday" will not be repeated -Russian Finance Minister

Events similar to "Black Tuesday" which is known to be the day in the mid. 90s when the ruble experienced a critical slump, and the financial turmoil of 1998 are not likely to occur in Russia again, Russian Finance Minister Alexey Kudrin reported to journalists. According to him, "the main term of the macroeconomic stabilization is being fulfilled now, the country lives within its means, the balance of payments is strengthening, the volume of gold and currency reserves is increasing." The recent approval of the budget draft for 2001 "gives strong evidence that no financial crises will ever occur in Russia again," the Minister emphasized, RBC reports.
