Drug crime is growing in Russia

159,000 crimes connected with drugs were committed this year in Russia. It is 15 per cent more than last year, said General Prosecutor’s counsellor Vladinir Kolesnikov. According to him, 370,000 drug-addicts appealed for aid this year. Kolesnikov also said that there is a tendency of using strong drugs, such as heroin. More than a half of drugs are being smuggled from abroad. The bulk of opium and heroin are being smuggled from Afghanistan through the counties of Central Asia. Altogether 1,5 tones of opium and 800 kilograms of heroin were withdrawn by militiamen this year. Besides, 400 drug couriers were detained. Criminals from 83 countries earn money at Russia’s drug market.
