The Novgorod epidemiologists are examining a letter containing white powder that was sent to Veliky Novgorod (North-Western Federal District) from America. Officials in the Epidemiological Supervision Center in the Novgorod Region told RIA Novosti that a private letter containing photos and white powder were found in a strong double envelope. After finding the suspicious substance, the addressee of the letter asked experts to check whether it contained an anthrax agent. The rapid analyses will be ready on October 18th, with the final test results available in several days, according to the regional Epidemiological Supervision Center. This is the first letter to contain suspicious substance sent to the Novgorod Region since the anthrax scare began in the US. According to the Epidemics Supervising Center, inhabitants of Novgorod have already repeatedly asked its experts to check printed matter and parcels from abroad in order to avoid a morbid infection.
