The State Duma of Russia (the Lower House of the Parliament) has adopted in the third, final, reading the law which allows to destroy chemical weapons not obligatory in the place of their storage, as is provided for by the legislation now in force. As the RIA Novosti correspondent reports, the appropriate amendment to the Law on the Destruction of Chemical Weapons was supported in the Duma by 342 deputies, with the necessary 226; nobody voted against or abstained. The deputies also adopted a number of the presidential amendments to the draft law. In accordance with them, the places for building chemical weapons-destruction facilities must be coordinated with the bodies of authority of the subjects of the Russian Federation and the bodies of local self-government in whose territories there are facilities for storing chemical weapons, and the routes of their transportation - with the corresponding bodies of the subjects of the Russian Federation in the territories of which such transportations are carried out. The passed law has been sent for the consideration of the Federation Council (the Upper House of the Parliament).
