Illegal Fishing Cost Sakhalin Region $0.8M This Year

The sum of damage to Sakhalin Region resulting from illegal fishing reached 24.1 million rubles (about $0.8 million) as of November 1, 2001, Sergei Mochalov, prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office for Environment Protection, said at a business meeting at the Sakhalinrybvod company. The Prosecutor's Office for Environment Protection of Sakhalin Region has filed over 10,000 criminal cases this year, the Vostok-Media news agency reports.
