Death squads murder children in Honduras

One way to solve social problems in certain Central and South American countries is through the practice of death squads. These are armed bands of killers. Their targets: the street children. Their aim: to kill as many as possible. Their reason: to kill the children before they can commit any more acts of theft.

There have been 1,000 such deaths of minors in the last three years in Honduras. A spokesperson for the charitable organisation, Casa Alianza, declared in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, that “we are tired of waking up every morning to the news of more deaths among young boys and girls...Until when is this wave of violence, abuse, bad treatment, rape, exploitation and death of children going to continue?”

Most of these killings take place around the shanty towns in Tegucigalpa and the second city, San Pedro Sula. The police deny the accusations that they are taking part in these massacres but admit that some police members are engaged in killing gang members. It is these “gang members” who are integrated in the country’s 34,000 street children, in a population of 6.1 million.
