Mullah Omar is back

The Pakistani newspaper Wahdat printed a message yesterday supposedly from Mullah Mohammad Omar, the former spiritual leader of the Taleban regime in Afghanistan.

In his message, Mohammad Omar threatened with death any Afghani who collaborates with the USA and appeals for all Moslems to make a Jihad (Holy War) against the United States and its allies.

The message refers to the Crusades, and tells all Afghanis working in the civil service to “leave their work posts to mark the difference between the Moslems and the Crusaders”. Furthermore, the message includes a fatwa, or call to war, identical to that issued by the Ayatollah Khomeini against the British-Indian author, Salman Rushdie, in the 1980s.

The message is true to form for Mullah Omar: “Millions of people sacrificed their lives for their country and for Islam, destroying Communism and now, there are those who collaborate with the North American barbarians and their allies to destroy the name of Islam and their country”.

The message continues, hard-line: “If anyone is found, after this warning, to be collaborating with the Americans, they will be responsible, before Islam, the people and History and will be punished like the Americans by the Mujaheddin (fighters) under the terms of the fatwa (decree for war)”.

The message was published by Wahdat after it had been distributed in the refugee camps in North-West Afghanistan.
