Construction of St. Petersburg Dam May Restart in March

Construction work on St. Petersburg's dam may start up again in March after tenders for the so-called 'Russian sections' are completed. These will be financed by the federal budget. This was announced to the press yesterday by Boris Paikin, the head of the North-West branch of federal construction agency Gosstroi.

Among the problems preventing work from starting up Paikin named the unclear situation regarding property. He said that an interdepartmental commission has been set up in Moscow to check the legality of leasing out construction sites.

Paikin also said that work may begin in March on the 'international section' of the dam, which is being financed by loans from foreign banks. He also announced that the design of the dam would be updated, as it has become out of date since it was drawn up.
