Saratov /the Middle Volga region/ has hosted the opening of a new information and analytical center on chemical weapons safe storage and elimination. Presidential plenipotentiary in the Volga federal district Sergei Kiriyenko was among the participants of the ceremony. Opening the center will help to overcome "chemophobia" - a disease threatening those living in the immediate vicinity with dangerous objects, he stated.
The center has been opened in the framework of the Federal target program to eliminate chemical weapons reserves in the Russian Federation. Its personnel will be constantly monitoring mass media, issue audio and video materials and produce analytical materials with the help of highly qualified experts. The center will also cooperate with executive authorities and conduct information and explanatory work with the population. It will gather information about the process of eliminating poisonous substances in the village of Gorny, the Saratov region, as well as environmentalists' information.
