International Federation of Human Rights Leagues Criticizes European Union

The International Federation of Human Rights Leagues issued a statement criticising the EU bitterly for its decision earlier in the week to agree to US demands not to extradite its citizens to the International Criminal Court, even if they are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The statement read, “The EU has given privilege to a political and opportunistic move” instead of applying “purely and simply the inherent juridical principles”. This, according to the Federation, creates an International Criminal Court that is “a la carte”, which can choose between who is prosecuted and who is not, based upon political pressures.

This, continues the statement, is against international law.
