Today, in Chisinau, Mikhail Kasyanov and Anatoly Kinakh, the Prime Ministers of Russia and Ukraine, signed an agreement on bilateral cooperation in energy production. According to the organising committee of the CIS summit, the signing ceremony was attended by the presidents of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Leonid Kuchma.
Immediately following this, representatives from the two largest gas companies of Russia and Ukraine, Gazprom and Naftogaz, signed an agreement on the creation of a new international gas consortium. Ukrainian analysts attending the event agree that the signing of these two documents was among the primary objectives of the whole summit in Chisinau.
