Shimon Peres: EU Turned Its Back on Israel

The Israeli Foreign Minister, Shimon Peres, accused the EU of “turning its back on Israel” at a strained meeting at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday.

He expressed his surprise at the economic sanctions imposed on Israel by the EU last April, stating that Israel had been attacked and given everything that the Palestinians asked back to them: “we offered them independence, we gave them a State, we gave back lands, we offered a position in Jerusalem and a solution for the colonies”.

Shimon Peres also criticised the EU for giving “dubious” financial grants to the Palestinians.
