A nurse at a Berlin hospital has been arrested on suspicion that she killed two patients at a cardiology unit, prosecutors said Thursday.
The 54-year-old was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of murder and was being questioned, Berlin prosecutors said in a statement.
The nurse is accused of giving deadly overdoses to two seriously ill patients, ages 62 and 77, at the Charite hospital's cardiological intensive care unit. The deaths occurred in mid-August and in early October.
Prosecutors ordered an immediate autopsy on the second patient. The first already has been cremated.
There was no immediate word on a possible motive for the alleged killings, and it was unclear what led to the suspect's arrest, reports AP.
Prosecutors said an autopsy was carried out Thursday on the body of a third patient who died when the nurse was on duty. The suspect's name was not released.
