A terrorist act has been prevented in downtown Grozny, reports the regional operational staff for controlling the counter terrorist operation in the North Caucasus.
According to the staff, a federal unit was conducting engineering reconnaissance on Lenin Avenue the other day when it spotted a homemade explosive device.
That remote-controlled explosive device was located inside a fruit-juice pack, comprising 400 grams of TNT, an electric detonator and a radio station, a staff spokesman noted. Moreover, the bomb contained nuts, bolts and metal fragments for inflicting greater damage, the spokesman added.
The explosive device was taken outside Grozny and subsequently blown up, he said.
According to investigators, this explosive device was to have been used against the residents of nearby houses, said the source.
The authorities are now searching for militants involved in making and planting the bomb, the source said in conclusion.
