Health of 11 miners brought to the surface does not arouse concern

Deputy governor of the Rostov region Alexander Bedrik told journalists that the health of miners rescued from the Zapadnaya-Kapitalnaya mine, where an emergency occurred, and taken to hospital did not arouse concern.

According to him, presently 11 miners from the mine had been taken to hospital. According to Bedrik, none of them are in a very grave condition. The health of the first three miners who were hospitalized was assessed by doctors as medium grave. Bedrik quoted specialists as saying that their state was improving. In addition to that he reported that basically doctors were diagnosing "hypothermia" and "hypoxia" (oxygen deficiency).

Vladimir Katalnikov, chairman of the Rostov territorial branch of "Rosugleprofsoyuz" reported to journalists that from first talks with the miners delivered to the hospital it became clear that they never panicked and displayed a strong character.

Also out of the talks with the miners it became known that they attempted several times to reach a nearby shaft to get out. Katalnikov indicated that they oriented themselves properly in the mine.
