Duma Speaker In North Caucasian Mayday Demonstration

Speaker Gennadi Seleznev of the State Duma, the federal parliament's lower house, took part in a Mayday demonstration here, morning. He later visited memorable sites related to a tragedy of six years ago, when the steppeland town was raided by a large Chechen terrorist gang. Led by notorious warlord Shamil Basayev, the gang killed more than a hundred in the streets-- passers-by and policemen who had fought the superior force. The bandits seized the town hospital to shoot soldier patients in their beds and take maternity ward patients hostage. Appalling footages were shown on the television worldwide. Present Mayday celebrations are heavily guarded after recent terror acts, which killed several dozen in the Stavropol Territory.
