The Talibs Have Left The City Of Kandahar

According to the not yet confirmed data, in the early hours of Wednesday the Talibs left their stronghold - the city of Kandahar, while the forces of the Northern Alliance have occupied the eastern provinces of Laghman, Kunar, Logar and Nangarhar. On Tuesday evening, about 5,000 armed Pashtoons, supposedly the supporters of former King Zahir Shah, approached the outskirts of Kandahar and early in the morning on Wednesday had to enter the city. The Qatar television station Al-Jazeera reports, with reference to eye-witnesses, Afghan refugees at the Chamand check-point on the Pakistani border, that on Tuesday the Pashtoons captured the aerodrome of Kandahar, some thirty kilometres to the south-west of the city. However, the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Abdullah Abdullah, said that the Northern Alliance had not sent its forces to Kandahar. In his interview to the Al Jazeera this has also been confirmed by President of the Islamic State of Afghanistan Burhanuddin Rabbani who is expected to arrive in Kabul on Wednesday. The anti-Taliban coalition now controls eighty percent of the Afghan territory, reports the Northern Alliance.
