Video Shows Geran-2 Kamikaze Drone Spawning to Deploy Mines Near Ukrainian Positions

A Russian kamikaze drone Geran-2 was captured by an enemy UAV at the precise moment it deployed PTM-3 anti-tank mines. The recording was highlighted by the Voennaya Khronika Telegram channel.

The video shows the instant when the drone's under-wing cassettes open and the mines are released. The process, reminiscent of "spawning,” allows the aircraft to mine roads used by Ukrainian forces before striking its primary target. With an operational range of up to 1,000 kilometers, the drone can drop mines near rear positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Rear-View Camera Enhances Operational Awareness

Earlier in December, Voennaya Khronika reported that Geran-2 units had been equipped with a rear-view camera. This addition enables the operator to "look back” and detect interception attempts.

Clustered PTM-3 Cassettes Enable Remote Mining

In August, it became known that the drones had begun to receive KPTM cassettes for remote mining. The PTM-3 cumulative mine contains 1.8 kilograms of explosive material.
