A member of illegal armed formations who put up resistance during the arrest has been killed in Chechnya. According to the Russian Interior Ministry, the clash took place the other day in the Prigornoye village on Sadovaya Street. Policemen and Interior Ministry's commandos were carrying out an operation to arrest an armed militant who put up a stout resistance. The federal troops opened return fire killing the bandit. He was identified as a 23-year-old local resident. On the scene, policemen found a Kalashnikov assault rifle with an under-barrel grenade launcher, an F-1 hand grenade and 180 rounds of ammunition.
In the same village, local policemen involved in a similar operation found and subsequently destroyed in a safe place ten tank and personnel mines, which had been cached in an abandoned high-school building. An investigation and an operation to find those responsible for making the cache have been launched.
