Ukrainian HIMARS systems strike detention centre with Azov fighters, 53 killed

The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the pre-trial detention center in the town of Yelenovka in the Donbass, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The Ukrainian military who left Azovstal steel plant were kept in the center. More than 50 people were killed in the attack.

Ukraine kills Ukrainian POWs in DPR

The Ukrainian forces struck the detention center in Yelenovka in the DPR (Donetsk People's Republic) from HIMARS systems.

Fighters from nationalist Azov* battalion were kept in the center after they surrendered to Russian forces in the siege of Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol.

Originally, the Russian Defence ministry reported that 40 Ukrainian prisoners of war were killed in 75 others were injured in the attack on the detention center. Later, the headquarters of the DPR territorial defense specified that 53 people were killed.

There were as many as 193 people held in the detention center in total.

According to the Russian military department, the goal of the attack was to intimidate Ukrainian soldiers and prevent their surrender in the future.
