Federal forces have liquidated a major base of gunmen in the Vedeno district of Chechnya.
RIA Novosti was told at the regional operations headquarters controlling the counter-terrorist operation in the Northern Caucasus, that the camp was meant to provide cover and shelter to more than 20 gunmen. It was built in a forest tract in the vicinity of the settlement of Shamilkhutor and was discovered with the help of local people.
Weapons, ammunition and communication means were found at the base.
The press centre of the Russian Interior Ministry in the Northern Caucasus reported that a 34-year-old woman was detained in Chechnya. She was making fake passports for members of illegal armed formations. Her name is not disclosed in the interests of the investigation. Blanks of passports and a seal were discovered in the house of the detained woman. The investigators are now finding out the names and number or gunmen who were provided with fake passports.
