Giant inflatable ball kills tourist in Russia

The organizer of the extreme attraction known as "Zorb" (a giant transparent inflatable ball) in Dombay, which killed a tourist in Russia, has been detained, law-enforcement officials in Karachay-Cherkessia said.

The arrested 25-year-old Ravil Chekkunov testifies to investigators regarding the circumstances of the tragic situation. During the interrogation, the man stated that he had purchased the inflatable ball for personal use.

It was previously reported that police were looking for three men who were allegedly involved in the tragedy. News agencies also said that the owners of the ball did not have the license to provide such services. According to investigators, the attraction was installed just an hour before the tragedy.

On January 3rd, during the first ride down the ski slope on Mussa-Achitara mountain, the transparent inflatable ball - zorb - with two tourists inside, who came from Pyatigorsk for New Year holidays, deviated from the track and rolled into a ravine. One man inside the ball died, the other one was injured.

The victim of the dangerous entertainment was a 27-year-old man, Denis Burakov, who, according to his friends, was a long time fan of snowboarding and diving. The man decided to to take a ride inside the Zorb. His 33-year-old friend, Vladimir Scherbov, was lucky to survive.

According to investigators, Denis and Vladimir flew for 812 meters before the ball finally stopped on the frozen lake. The horrific video, which showed the zorb rushing down the slope, was made by one of Dennis's friends.

Denis Burakov suffered a fracture of his spine and three ribs. He had his heart and lungs bruised. The man died in an ER vehicle on the way to hospital. Shcherbov suffered a concussion and multiple bruises.
