Bulgaria's current account deficit grew by 464.3 million EUR(US$678 million) in September.

The current account gap at the end of the third quarter reached 3.7 billion EUR(US$5.4 billion), or 13.8 percent of gross domestic product, compared to 2.1 billion EUR(US$3.1 billion), or 8.4 percent of GDP for the same period of 2006.

The continued widening of the current account deficit was mainly the result of the growing trade deficit, which reached 5.1 billion EUR(US$7.4 billion), or 19 percent of GDP, for the January-September period.

Direct foreign investment for the same period was 3.8 billion EUR(US$5.5 billion), or 14.2 percent of GDP.
