Reality TV shows are part of a political project

Andrei Kuraev, a Russian Orthodox Church missionaryReality shows on TV are part of a political project aimed at creating total control to prevent terrorism, according to deacon Andrei Kuraev, a Russian Orthodox Church missionary.

"Living 'stripped down to the bone' is not a disgrace – that's the message to teenagers the shows are made for," said Mr. Kuraev in his interview to a TV station of the Ekaterinburg eparchy, reports Newsru.com.

The reality TV shows remind the viewers of the Big Brother that keeps watching. "TV cameras will be running at all times no matter where you happen to be, they will be watching you to ensure your security, popularity etc.," said he.

Mr. Kuraev said that Western society had followed the ideology of enlightenment for the last 300 years. Human's superiority to society is one the basic myths of the ideology. Other myths put individual human rights above the interests of a family and the state.

"As the new social elite came to light in modern Western society, they decided to get rid of this ideology," said Mr. Kuraev. "They say that 9/11 was the beginning of a new era, and today's highest value is the right to life which is much higher than freedom and human rights," said he. In other words, allow us to protect you from terrorism since it is a global threat to all mankind.

According to Mr. Kuraev, "they will be putting modern people into solitary confinement cells with guard dogs for their own safety" and "new totalitarian societies will be built to control the human beings, their thoughts, purchases, and correspondence."
