Foreign Ministers Of Russia And Lithuania To Negotiate In Moscow

Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov and his Lithuanian counterpart Antanas Valionis will hold negotiations today in Moscow. The sides will discuss a number of urgent bilateral problems in compliance with the agreements reached during the official visit to Moscow by Lithuanian president Valdas Adamkus last March. The ministers will focus their attention on issues pertaining to the life support system of the Kaliningrad region, which is a Russian region in the Baltic area. Moscow wants to be sure that the forthcoming access of Lithuania to the European Union will not create difficulties for Russians who live in the Kaliningrad region and for the transit of Russian cargoes through it. The sides will also touch upon the question of improving conditions for the activity of Russian business in Lithuania and the situation of the republic's Russian-speakers.
