Having Big Waist? Forget Plane Flights

A Taiwanese woman brought an action against Hong Kong’s second largest airline, Dragonair: it blamed the company for discrimination and violation of her rights when Dragonair refused to sell a ticket to the woman “because of her excessive size.”

As Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti informs, the passenger, whose name is not reported, wanted to buy two economic class tickets for herself to go from Taipei to Shanghai, but she was refused. Then the woman said she was ready to buy first class tickets to the seats of a bigger size, but Dragonair categorically refused.

A spokesman for the airline in Taiwan explained that the refusal was for the sake of the passenger’s personal safety. The problem is that safety belts even on the biggest seats in planes are designed for passenger with waits of not more than 135 centimeters. The wait of the woman who was refused any tickets exceeds 150 centimeters.
