Marat Safin retains lead in champions' race of association of tennis professionals (ATP)

In the new rating list of professional tennis players which was published on Monday Marat Safin from Russia confidently retains first place. At the moment he boasts 390 points, 50 more than runner-up Alberto Costa from Spain. American Andre Agassi is in third place with 325 points, Lleyton Hewitt from Australia comes fourth (324), and Roget Federer from Switzerland ranks fifth (323).

The list of the top ten also includes 6. Thomas Johansson (Sweden, 303 points), 7. Tim Henman (Great Britain, 288), 8. Juan Carlos Ferrero (Spain, 280), 9. Tommy Haas (Germany, 273) and 10. Jiri Novak (the Czech Republic, 254).

Alongside Safin, three more Russians feature among the 100 best tennis players: 20. Yevgeny Kafelnikov (144 points), 58. Mikhail Yuzhnyi (72), and 92. Nikolai Davidenko (31).
