Logistics center to be built around Yakutsk

Specialists summed up preliminary results of the 12th International Forum and Exhibition "Roads of Russia in the XXI Century" held in Yakutsk, Yakutia. The participants discussed the issues of the development of roads and developed a resolution for their construction and operation. President of Yakutia Egor Borisov announced the plans to build a logistics center around Yakutsk.

Egor Borisov stressed the relevance of creating the logistics center around Yakutsk: "Today we have a unique opportunity to combine three federal roads, a railway, river transport and aviation. And if we now decide the global issue of building a bridge across the Lena River, then we can handle the task to create the logistics center within Yakutsk." Borisov added that the future plans for the administration of the region is to build a transport corridor from the republic to the North Sea Route.

It is the first time when the road construction questions are considered at such a high level in Yakutsk. The authorities of the republic pay serious attention to the development of the transport complex. According to the President of Yakutia, the federal and republican budgets and other sources made it possible to increase the funding for the road sector.

The difficulties with the construction of roads in Yakutia are connected with the lack of experience of conducting such works under the conditions of permafrost. A forum member, the director of the Federal Road Agency (Rosavtodor), Anatoly Chabunin, said that the technology of building roads in permafrost would be developed in Yakutia. There are several of such technologies in the world, but they are expensive, so Yakutia needs to find its own variant, said Chabunin. He pledged that by 2018 all federal roads would be brought to a standard; 15 of them would be repaired.
