The World Food Programme has launched an appeal for emergency food supplies to be sent for the region of the Horn of Africa, where 12 million people are at risk of death by starvation by the end of the year.
James Morris, Director of the WFP, stated that more than 2 million people in Eritrea (two thirds of the country’s population) and 10 million people in Ethiopia, will be affected by drought, which has led to severe crop failures this harvesting season. He declared that “an immense human tragedy” can be stopped if donors react immediately.
Some are too busy sabre-rattling to care.
