The bomb-laden parked car exploded opposite a bank in Karradah neighborhood, said police Lt. Col. Abbas Mohammed Salman.
He told The Associated Press that the dead included four civilians, two soldiers and two commandos. Among the injured are 10 civilians, six soldiers, four commandos. All the victims were Iraqis, he said.
Karradah, an upscale mostly Shiite area of Baghdad, has seen increasing violence in the sectarian fighting between Shiites and Sunnis in recent months, the AP reports.
Last Thursday, rockets and mortars rained down in Karradah, collapsing an apartment house, shattering shops and killing at least 31 people.
