New Zealand governor general to visit South Korea

New Zealand governor general Dame Silvia Cartwright said Wednesday she plans to make an official state visit to South Korea April 19-22. Dame Silvia will be accorded a formal state welcome, meet with President Roh Moo-Hyun, and attend a state dinner, her office said in a statement.

She plans to lay a wreath at the National Cemetery in the capital, Seoul , and attend a commemorative service at the Commonwealth Memorial at Kapyong and attend top-level meetings, it said. New Zealand troops fought in South Korea during the Korean War. The governor general will also receive an honorary doctorate from Ewha Womans University in Seoul , her office said. U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan last month named former High Court judge Cartwright as one of seven international judges to try Cambodia 's former Khmer Rouge leaders for genocide, reports the AP.
