A Japanese man has died after he was bitten by a stray dog in downtown Bucharest, authorities said Monday. Hajime Hori, 68, was bitten in the left leg on Sunday. The bite damaged an artery in his thigh and he bled to death several minutes later, said Christian Ciocan, spokesman for Bucharest police.
Hori was entering his apartment building, close to the government headquarters in the heart of the capital. Dog catchers later Sunday captured dozens of stray dogs in the area.
Deputy mayor of Bucharest Razvan Murgeanu said Monday that Bucharest's stray dogs should be put down: "There is only one solution however painful it may be and that is for the dogs to be eradicated," he told Realitatea TV on Monday. The city of more than 2 million has about 200,000 stray dogs, reports the AP. I.L.
