Englishman appears in Australian court accused of murder of Scottish tourist

A British tourist was refused bail Monday when he appeared in a court to face charges of stabbing to death a Scottish man in an Australian trailer park. Alexander Christian York, 31, of England, appeared in Tumut Local Court on Monday charged with murdering Rudi Boa, 27, a tourist from Scotland, in a Tumut trailer park on Friday night.

The British High Commission, police and court officials declined to specify home towns for the two men. York was ordered to remain in custody until his next court appearance on March 13 when he is expected to enter a plea. He faces a life sentence if convicted of murder.

Police spokeswoman Sue Thompson alleged the pair had been drinking together at the trailer park in Tumut, about 400 kilometers (250 miles) southwest of Sydney, before an argument developed late Friday night.

"Both men were understood to be holidaying in Australia," Thompson said. Boa's girlfriend was treated at the Tumut hospital for shock, Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio reported. The ABC did not identify her or say where she was from, reports the AP. I.L.
