U.K. police arrested man in connection with London bombings

U.K. police today arrested a man in connection with the July 21 attempted bombings on the London transportation system. The man, 23, was detained shortly after 5 a.m. U.K. time at London's Gatwick airport, as he got off a flight that originated in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, police said in an e- mailed statement without giving his name. He was arrested ``on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000,'' police said.

No one was injured when four bombs partially detonated in the incidents on July 21, two weeks to the day after four suicide bombers killed 52 passengers in attacks that also targeted three subway trains and a bus.

The trial of four men suspected of carrying out the failed bombings is scheduled for September, a London court announced on Dec. 8. The men are Hussain Osman, Yassin Hassan Omar, Muktar Said Ibrahim and Ramzi Mohamed.

The man arrested today is a resident of London's Tottenham district, according to today's statement. He was taken to a police station in central London, police said without giving the name of the station, reports Bloomberg. I.L.
