U.S. race rally: Police outnumber protestors

A rally organized by a white supremacist radio talk-show host on Saturday drew about 50 supporters, 100 counter protesters, and more police than any of them.

New Jersey-based radio talk-show host Hal Turner invited the Ku Klux Klan and similar groups to help protest recent attacks on white students by black students at Kingston High School, about 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of Albany.

Police have said the attacks were not motivated by race. Between 175 and 200 officers were present at the event, said Kingston Police Det. Michael Turck.

"Welcome back again and again until we bankrupt this city," Turner told the crowd. He had earlier estimated the city had to pay $100,000 (Ђ85,000) in overtime for security.

Kingston Mayor Jim Sottile said race relations in Kingston are no different than in any other community. "It's been blown so far out of proportion, it's very sad," he said.

The noon rally outside Kingston High School lasted about an hour. Turck said he did not know of any arrests, reported AP. P.T.
