Danish tourist body found in Nile River

Police have recovered the body of a Danish man after powerful currents swept him away as he swam in Uganda near the source of Africa's longest river, the Nile, police said Friday.

The body of Thyge Sogaard, 23, was found late Thursday after he was reported missing on Tuesday. Police divers found the body near the source of Africa's longest river.

Doctors were carrying out a postmortem at a government hospital in Jinja, 80 kilometers (50 miles) east of the capital Kampala, police commander Joseph Mugisha told The Associated Press.

"The cause of the death was natural drowning. He swam in a turbulent area and could not stand the powerful currents to remain afloat. The body got stuck between the rocks, half a kilometer (quarter mile) from the point where the currents swept him away," Mugisha said, reports the AP. I.L.
