Insurgents suspected in ties with al Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi have murdered a Bulgarian hostage in Iraq and threatened Bulgarian officials to execute a second Bulgarian within 24 hours unless prisoners kept by US-led forces will be freed, Al Jazeera has reported.
The Arabic satellite television station said on Tuesday it had decided not to broadcast a video tape from the militants of the execution because it was too "gruesome".
But Al Jazeera showed footage of three masked men with one of the Bulgarians kneeling before them in a blindfold and orange jumpsuit.
Al-Jazeera also reports militants holding an Egyptian man gave the Saudi company he works for 72 hours to leave Iraq.
