'I promised that I would put many criminals in jail and I have kept my word,' said Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili yesterday while commenting on the detainment of former Transportation and Communications Minister Merab Adeishvili.
Saakashvili said that each year thousands of dollars aimed at improving the country's communications and transportation was embezzled by Adeishvili. 'This money was taken from the pockets of our children and the poor,' said Saakashvili. He also said that in the next few days several criminal groups would be disarmed. 'If they resist, they will be shot on site. The mafia in Georgia will be destroyed,' he promised.
