Japan set to get Siberian oil

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi voiced hope to the effect that the Eastern Siberian oil-pipeline project will be translated into life. This project has great significance for expanding Japanese-Russian economic cooperation, Kawaguchi told RIA-NOVOSTI. This project calls for laying an oil pipeline from Angarsk, Eastern Siberia, to the port of Nakhodka (Russia's Far Eastern coast).

Kawaguchi arrived in Vladivostok today for meeting Deputy Russian Prime Minister Victor Khristenko. According to Kawaguchi, she intends to discuss specific bilateral-cooperation issues (as regards this project) in greater detail.

In her words, Japan perceives this pipeline as something important in the context of fuel-and-energy stability. This pipeline would make it possible to seriously reduce Japanese dependence on Mideastern oil imports, Kawaguchi told RIA-NOVOSTI.
