The George W. Bush administration believes that Russia and other states should stop helping Iran in carrying out its nuclear programme.
Official spokesman for the US Department of State Richard Boucher spoke about it at a briefing in Washington on Tuesday.
According to him, the United States and Russia share the opinion that Teheran must not create nuclear weapons and that Iran, if it possesses nuclear potential, will pose a great danger for the whole region and for our security.
Richard Boucher said that, according to the US data, Iran carries out in reality a broader programme in the nuclear sphere and it uses its nuclear reactor as a cover for receiving expertise and exchanges for such a programme.
Every year, he continued, in burning out casing-head gas, Iran loses more energy than its nuclear reactors will produce. Thus, said Boucher, the nuclear programme of Teheran does not have a sense except the development of nuclear weapons.
We believe that assistance to Iran in developing its nuclear programme does not meet anybody's interests, underscored the spokesman for the US Department of State.
